Botanical Garden

The Land Of Picture - Perfect Views


Ooty is an astonishing hill station which has been labeled as the 'Queen of hill stations'. Ooty is the capital of Nilgiri district in Tamil Nadu. Towering to an altitude of 2, 767 m above sea level, Ooty is a famous destination among honeymooners. It was once a part of the powerful Chera Empire in the bygone era. It is a land dotted with numerous tea gardens which are refreshing to the eyes and to the taste buds too, as here you can relish flavored tea. Ooty with its mighty mountains, beautiful grasslands, thick forests and rejuvenating tea gardens draws tourists in great numbers. Ooty is also the venue for the annual Tea and Tourism festival, one of its great attractions.

Attractions Of Ooty


Botanical Garden

Ooty has a captivating Botanical Garden, a delight for one and all. Covering acres of areas, the garden is flooded with beautiful flora. Located on the lower slopes of Dodabetta Peak (the highest peak in Ooty), the garden attracts many a visitor.


Government Museum

Established with a noble cause to provide education benefits to the residing and visiting population of Nilgiri district in the year 1989, the Government Museum of Ooty is a storehouse of tribal articles, the district's ecological details and representative sculptural arts and crafts of the state of Tamil Nadu. Timings of the museum are : 10.00 am to1.00 pm and 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm. The museum remains closed on Fridays, second Saturdays and National Holidays.


Scenic Beauty

The famed hill station Ooty offers mesmerizing views of natural beauty - the mountains, grasslands, tea gardens, valleys and forests.


Kalhatty Falls

Kalhatty Falls, a famous picnic spot, is located at a distance of 13 km from Ooty on the Mysore Kalhatty ghat road. The height of this waterfall is 122m.


Kandal Cross Shrine

It is a Roman Catholic Shrine considered as the Jerusalem of the East. The Nilgiri Catholics call it the 'Calvary of Tamil Nadu'.


Mini Garden and Rose Garden

Mini garden and Rose Garden are wonderful treats to the senses.


Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary

Established in 1940,the beautiful Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a variety of mammals, avian species, reptiles and vegetation.


Ooty Lake

Built in 1825 with an aim to provide an irrigation tank to the people, Ooty Lake is now a popular picnic spot.


Summer Festival

Held every year in the month of May, the Summer Festival attracts tourists from across the globe. The beautiful and refreshing Botanical Garden serves as the venue for the festival. This is the place where entertainment and beauty are combined perfectly during the festival.


Tea And Tourism Festival

Ooty has numerous tea estates which bring this hill station into the limelight. The Tea and Tourism Festival is celebrated in Ooty in the month of January/February annually. The festival is organized by the Government of India, Department of Tourism, Government of Tamil Nadu and Ministry of Tourism. This festival not only provides entertainment to tourists but also offers an opportunity to relish a wide variety of tea.


Trekking

Ooty offers ample opportunities for trekking. In fact trekking is the best way to enjoy Ooty's natural beauty.

How To Reach

By Air: Coimbatore is the nearest airport from Ooty located at 100 km from it, which in turn is connected to the other main airports of India.

By Rail: There is a railway station in Ooty which is connected to Coimbatore and Chennai.

By Road: Ooty is well connected to a good network of roads to the major cities of South India such as Chennai, Bangalore and Coimbatore.
