Kasauli

Breathtaking beauty, peace and tranquility, beautiful gardens and orchards, cool ambience, - Kasauli, a small hill station, is known for its natural beauty. Offering a majestic view of the snow clad mountains and lush foliage, Kasauli is a perfect example of unspoiled natural beauty. Kasauli is 77 km from Shimla at a height of about 6,400 ft above sea level.

The town welcomes you to feel the charm of leisurely picnics and birdwatching in dense woods. As the legend goes, Kasauli came in to existence when Lord Hanuman jumped on the Sanjeevani hill while trying to get the Sanjeevani herb for Lakshman (Lord Rama's brother).


Major Attractions


Monkey Point

It is the highest point in Kasauli, offering amazing views of the whole town. A small temple, dedicated to Lord Hanuman, is also situated over the hill. The hill also has an air force radar station and base. No cameras or bags are allowed here for security issues.


Other major places to see at Kasauli are:

  • Shirdi Sai Baba Mandir (built in 1989 by Sai Sudha Trust)
  • Shri Baba Balak Nath Temple (located on the Graner Hill top)
  • Baptist Church and Christ Church (famous for extraordinary English architecture)
  • Sabathu (visited for the Gurkha fort, constructed in the 19th century)

Getting There

By Air: The nearest airports are Chandigarh (64 km) and Shimla (77 km).

By Rail: Nearest railhead is Kalka (40 km), in Haryana.

By Road: Kasauli is well connected by road. There are regular bus, coach and taxi services. The State transport buses ply on a regular basis from Chandigarh and Delhi.
